taking stock

I got this idea from Arnebya, who got it from Laurie Media, who got it from Meet Me at Mike’s, who I had never heard of, but will now be visiting because SO PRETTY. I cut a few things from MMaM’s list because it was long. But you can find the entire list here.

Making: Christmas cards. I’m like 40% done. We’ll see how it goes and if anyone actually gets any cards this year.

Cooking: Everything carb free.

Drinking: My beloved Ruta Maya coffee. I also picked up some gingersnap flavored tea the other day. I’m not much of a tea person, but I love a good holiday hot drink on a cold night, and we’re due to actually dip below 60 degrees this week. (Update: the tea is underwhelming. It’s possible I don’t really know how to make tea.)

Reading: The Girl Who Drank the Moon (with one of my 9-year-olds) and Creativity, Inc. (affiliate links)

Wanting: A new piece of art for my home.

Looking: At my Christmas tree and the half strand of lights that went out at the top. I’m pretty sure this happened last year too, and I didn’t bother to throw them out. I used to be a white light purist with only red and white ornaments. As my kids get older, we’ve graduated to multi-colored lights and all of the colorful and funky ornaments they pick out and make, and I love it more and more each year. Christmas should be colorful.

Playing: My Tragically Hip playlist and still getting a little weepy over Gord Downie’s death.

Deciding: If the long row of low, two-shelved bookshelves I’ve been wanting are practical? How would anyone peruse my bookshelves if they are so low to the ground? I love book swapping, so having my books where people can see them is important. But I also have done the dual, heavy bookcase thing, and it overpowered our smallish house. (Basically I just need someone to tell me what to do.)

Wishing: I could make up my mind for once.

Enjoying: Listening to Gretchen Rubin’s Happier podcast from the beginning, which I started after listening to and loving Happier in Hollywood, with Gretchen’s sister Liz Craft and her writing partner Sarah Fain.

Waiting: To see if we’ve actually rid our attic of squirrels. (I am not hopeful.)

Liking: The Austin December weather. It’s a rollercoaster of warm and cool, but at least there’s no snow.

Wondering: How some people just go go go all the time. If I don’t get frequent downtime, I get anxious and crabby.

Loving: Lord Huron

Pondering: The concept of creativity.

Considering: Removing Facebook from my phone. (Update: I did!)

Buying: These ridiculous squishy things for my kids which may not even arrive in time for Christmas (affiliate link).

Watching: The Good Place because it’s hilarious and clever. Stranger Things and ST2, because I needed everyone else to watch it first to make sure it’s absolutely worth my time.

Hoping: The above mentioned attic squirrels are gone for good.

Cringing: Pretty much anytime my kids are inside.

Needing: To work out, but after a week of not being able to make the time, I’m having trouble finding my mojo.

Questioning: My parenting abilities, always.

Smelling: The candle my kid just blew out (which I lit to cover up the dog smell, by the way).

Wearing: Flannel!

Following: This artist’s gorgeous Instagram account. (H/t my friend @quickdrawmama)

Thinking: About how I’m going to pull off the awesome gift I’m getting my husband for Christmas.

Admiring: My friend Angela’s kitchen dancing.

Sorting: Laundry, always.

Coveting: This patterned bathroom tile.

Disliking: My current boring bathroom tile.

Feeling: Indecisive about husband’s above-mentioned Christmas gift, about whether to go to a conference this spring, basically about everything. #LibraLife.

Hearing: Yelling. So much yelling. #kidsareloud

    2) Lord Huron is a band (singer?). Ver’ good.
    5) If you are not Canadian or know someone very well who is Canadian, you likely wouldn’t know who they are. But they were (are?) THE biggest band in Canada. Like U2 or someone equally big here. Their fame just never really trickled down to the states.

I like the bookshelves but if it ends up feeling too low, just turn it on one end and make it a tall, skinny row of cubbies to house your pet squirrels.

    This is a sound plan.

Those squishy things have possibilities for some of my adult friends. 😀 Thanks for the suggestion!
